Happy Father’s Day!

Like most other holidays I am almost always putting together a gift the day before (or even the day of!).  As much as I try to plan ahead I feel like I do my best work at the 11th hour.  Or at least that’s what I tell myself…

This year I won’t be home to celebrate Father’s Day in person with my Dad today, but I did send him some of his favorite peanut butter cookies to enjoy! If you’re scrambling for a gift idea at the last minute, keep reading to see seven affordable (and some free) ideas-great for fathers, grandfathers, or any other father figure in your life!

1-Plan a Day Together

Although it’s nice to get a well thought out gift for Father’s Day, I know my Dad (and maybe most other fathers) would say spending time together is the best gift of all! If your father likes golfing, maybe take him to the driving range.  Beer connoisseur? Take him to a local brewery for a pint. Maybe you’re Dad has a sweet tooth and you can get a frozen yogurt or ice cream together.  I know it seem like such a simple idea, but sometimes the simplest ones are overlooked!

2-Bake or Buy His Favorite Treat

My dad loves peanut butter-peanut butter cookies, peanut butter M&Ms, peanut butter cups…I could go on and on! This is another simple idea that can be very affordable.  Father’s day treats and a sweet card-you can never go wrong! If your father loves peanut butter like mine, check out these DIY 15-minute peanut butter cups from The Recipe Critic.

3-DIY Picture Frame

I thought this 10-minute picture frame idea from Practically Functional was so sweet! If you don’t have scrabble letters or can’t get them last minute  you could also glue on nuts and bolts, golf tees, fishing lures, or other things that represent the father in your life. Great idea for Dad’s office at work or home!

4-Help Around the House

Here’s another freebie (or affordable) idea! Help Dad with his honey to-do list such as yard work, cleaning, maybe you have a knack for cars and can help him change his oil.  Anything to make his day a little easier would be greatly appreciated.  This is also a great opportunity to spend time together!

5-Grill Rub

Lots of fathers love grilling-mine is no exception! How about putting together a new grill rub? Mason jars or other glass jar {affiliate link} with a handwritten gift tag would be a great last minute idea! Plus he may even want to thank you with ribs! 🙂 Here is one recipe idea from A Pretty Life in the Suburbs .

6-New Tools

Jumping on the grilling theme if your father can use new tools how about attaching a catchy gift tag? I love this idea from Crafty Morning. Think spatulas (you’re flipping’ awesome, Dad!), hammer (you nailed it, Dad!, a new cooler (stay cool, Dad!) anything your father can use! A good pun never hurts either!

7-DIY Wooden Bottle Opener

This last idea is relatively easy even if you are new to wood projects! The material list is short and it doesn’t require a lot of fancy tools.  If you’re nervous about building this yourself, maybe it could be a great Father’s Day project for you and dear ol’ Dad.  Shanty 2 Chic has lots of other great DIY wood projects also!

And lastly, a very special Happy Father’s Day to my own father! I may be a little biased but he is the best father I know-love you, Dad!
