Hello again! It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through February. Even harder to believe is the fact that my husband Steve and I closed on our 1850 Italianate style home just over a year ago… it’s been that long already! We’ve now entered one of the most anticipated projects of the remodel for us-a new kitchen!
We are completely moving the kitchen from a small, cramped space on one side of the house to a larger space that will have room for an island and will be open to the living area.
Because our first floor dining, living, and kitchen areas will be completely open, we wanted to keep with very light paint colors and cabinets. We are also putting down new floors that will help tie the three rooms together.
Here’s a sneak peak of our inspiration board for our new kitchen! We like a mix of rustic/farmhouse with more modern almost industrial touches and I hope that’s reflected in our new kitchen.
Flooring: Home Depot
Cabinets (similar): Lowes
Subway tile backsplash: Home Depot
Faucet: Home Depot
Paint color: Silver Drop by Behr
Pendant light: Lowes
Bar stools: Wayfair
We originally started out looking at high end finishes but after spending extra money redoing the “behind-the-scenes” areas of the house (i.e. electrical, basement, garage) we needed to downgrade some of our original choices, such as Quartz counters,at least for now.
We also are saving a couple pennies by having Steve build all the cabinets himself. They will end up being about the same price as pre-built cabinets sold at Lowe’s or Home Depot, but much cheaper than buying all wood cabinets from a cabinet maker.
